AEI "Saxby" Side Road Fluorescent Street Light with Gear & 2 x 2ft 40 watt Fluorescent Tubes

Here you see the AEI (Lamps & Lighting) Saxby Fluorescent Street Light, with Gear and 2 x 2 foot 40 watt Fluorescent Tubes. These Street Lights are widely used around the United Kingdom they were first installed in the 1960's and when AEI Lamps & Lighting Limited, was sold off Thorn Lighting they continued to manufacture these as the Thorn BETA 6, until the late 1980's, also by then, virtually all Fluorescent Street Lights were Replaced with SOX or SON Lighting as well as the new Ceramic Metal Halide Lamps.

Here you see a Advanced LED's (UK) Limited 14 watt LED Clipper Street Light, this light is fitted with 6 x High Output Light Emitting Diodes (LED's) and Zodion SS12 Electronic Photocell, this Street light can be mounted on a 50 to 60mm Diameter Side Entry Bracket, or can be Mounted Post top on a 50 to 76mm Diameter Lighting Column (Lamp Post), this light gives 1750 Lumens (almost as bright as a 150w Filament or 50 watt Mercury Lamp) and gives a Cool Daylight White Light.

Here you see a Late 1960's Atlas Beta 5 Side Road Street Light with Metal Bowl Ring Support and Fake Bowl for 35 watt SOX Low Pressure Sodium Lamps.
 
This Street Light was Originally Made by AEI (Lamps and Lighting) Ltd, as the Amber Minor and uses a Remote Ballast which would be Mounted in the Base Compartment of the Lighting Column (Lamp Post), Originally this Light would have used a 45 or 60 watt SO/H "Dewar" or SOI/H "Integral" Sodium Lamps as well as the Early 40 watt SOX Lamp.

Genuine American Electric Inc. 175 watt "NEMA" Mercury Street Light, from the USA

Here you see a Genuine American Electric Inc. "NEMA" Street Light, this Light was kindly sent to me from the USA by a fellow Street Lighting Collector, although the original Ballast Capacitor has been removed (Due to the Ballast had Burnt Out), I have manage to rewire this with a 150 watt SON Ballast, 20uf Capacitor, and Ignitor to operate this with European 150 watt SON High Pressure Sodium or Venture "Whitelux" HIPE Lamps and the Philips CDO-ET Ceramic Metal Halide Lamps.

Arcluce S7266 PATIO Post Top Lantern for 70 watt SON Lamps

I won this ArcLuce Patio 70w SON Post Top Lantern for £9.45 including Postage off E-bay, as you can see it has Metal Louvres to shield the Lamp from Direct Glare, you may notice the Louvers are slightly bent/offset this was caused by the Postal service,, anyway the louvres can be straightned by simply pushing the support screws straight.

This Street Light is designed for use on the American 480 volt 60 Hz Supply, and even the Lamp is different then the UK 100 watt SON high Pressure Sodium Lamp as it uses a 55 volt 2.10 amp Arc Tube where the UK/European SON High Pressure Sodium Lamp uses a 100 volt 1.2 amp Arc Tube.

Here you see the 1980's Eleco "Silverray" HW918 Side Road Street Light with Clear Polycarbonate Bowl and Cableform SS5 Photocell and 80 watt MBF/U Mercury Fluorescent Lamps with ES caps, still attached to the Lamp Post Bracket.

This Street Light uses a Remote Ballast which would be Mounted in the Base Compartment of the Lighting Column (Lamp Post), and this Lantern can use a 125 watt Mercury Lamp as well as 50 to 120w SON High Pressure Sodium Lamps.

Here you see a 1930's ESLA (Electric Street Lighting Apparatus) "Bi-Multi 165 deg" Street Light, these street lights use mirrors to distribute the light along the road surface, they were widely used around the United Kingdom and were first installed in the 1920's, until the 1980's, as virtually all of these Street Lights were Replaced with SOX or SON Lighting, this Light is fitted with a Crompton 80 watt Pearl Pear Shaped MB/U Mercury Lamp to give it the authentic look.

Here you see a GEC "Clearside" Z8260 Side Road Fluorescent Street Light with 2 x 2ft 40 watt Fluorescent Tubes, These Street Lights were widely used around the United Kingdom on Both Side Streets and Railway Station Platforms, they were first installed in the 1960's, on "New Town" Housing Estates, etc., until the 1980's, as virtually all Fluorescent Street Lights were Replaced with SOX or SON Lighting.

GEC "Clearmain" Z8430CM Main Road Street Light for 250 and 400 watt MBF/U Colour Corrected Mercury Fluorescent Lamps

Here you see a GEC "Clearmain" Main Road Street Light for the 250 or 400 watt, MBF/U (Colour Corrected) Mercury Fluorescent Lamps, These Street Lights were widely used around the United Kingdom, they were first installed in the 1960's for the New Colour Corrected Mercury Lamp, Type MBF/U, and to replace the Older Z8430 which was designed for the Discontinued MA/V Mercury Vapour Lamp, GEC Continued to manufacture the Z8430CM until the end of the 1980's, for Both Mercury and High Pressure Sodium Lamps, but when Siemens took over GEC they were Discontinued as they produced a Non Cut-Off Light which did not comply with the New BSEN5489 Regulations for Street Lighting.

GEC "Clearside" Z8596 Side Road Street Light  for 80/125 watt MB/U Mercury and MBF/U Mercury Fluorescent Lamps with 3-pin BC Caps.

Here you see the GEC "Clearside" Z8596 Side Road Street Light with Aluminium Body, and Prismatic Polycarbonate Bowl for 80/125 watt MBF/U Mercury Vapour Lamp, this Light is fitted with a 125 watt Mercury Lamp with 3 pin BC cap, and would origionally used a Glass Bowl, and was replaced by the Z8896 by the 1980's.

GEC Z8691 Side Road Street Light with Internal Gear, for 125 watt MBF/U Mercury Lamps with ES caps.

Here you see the GEC Z8691/125 Side Road Street Light with Aluminium Body, and Integral Gear and Prismatic Polycarbonate Bowl for 125 watt MBF/U Mercury Fluorescent Lamp, this street light has a ES Lampholder which also allows this lantern to use a 110 watt Retrofit SON High Pressure Sodium Lamp,
 
I also have the 80 watt Mercury Lamp Version of this Light with a NEMA Photocell Socket, (See Below) and these were replaced by the Z8832 by the 1980's.

GEC Z8691 Side Road Street Light with Internal Gear, Photocell and 80 watt 3-pin BC, MBF/U Mercury Lamp

Here you see the GEC Z8691/80 Side Road Street Light, This Street Lantern is designed with Integral Gear for Group B Side Road Street Lighting as well as Security Lighting, the Lantern is Die-cast, which houses the Lamp Operating Gear, and is fitted with a NEMA socket with a Hi-Lux Electronic Photocell, this Lantern is fitted with a 3 pin BC Lampholder and a OSRAM GmbH 80 watt HQL (MBF/U) Mercury Lamp with 3 pin BC cap, I also have the 125 watt Mercury Lamp version with ES Lampholder which can also use the 110 watt Retrofit SON High Pressure Sodium Lamps too. (See Above).

GEC Z8832/70/N Side Road Street Light with Photocell & Gear for 70 watt SON Sodium Lamp.

Here you see the older GEC Z8832/70 Side Road Street Light with NEMA Photocell and Integral Gear and Shallow Bowl for 70 watt SON High Pressure Sodium Lamps, these Street Lanterns were first made by GEC (Street Lighting) Limited in the mid 1980's they were also made for 80/125 watt MBF/U Mercury, 50/70/100 and 120 watt SON High Pressure Sodium and 35 watt SOX Low Pressure Sodium Lamps they were also later Made by Siemens and until Recently as the WRTL (Whitecroft Road & Tunnel Lighting), SRL8 series .

GEC Z8896 Side Road Street Light with Photocell for 80/125w MBF/ Mercury Lamps with 3 Pin BC Caps

Here you see the GEC Z8896 Side Road Street Light with Aluminium Body, Zodion SS6 Electronic Photocell Polycarbonate Bowl for 80 or 125 watt MBF/U Mercury Fluorescent Lamps with 3 Pin BC Caps, this Light was also made with a ES Lampholder to allow the use of the 50/70 and 120 watt SON Sodium Lamps as well as the 80/125 watt Mercury Fluorescent Lamps with ES Caps, this Lantern was the known as the Z8897, they were still made by Siemens as the SRL9, but became discontinued by the mid 2000's when WRTL too over Siemens Lighting and closed the UK Street Lighting Manufacturing Down, along with Davis/Eleco, Simplex/Chalmit, as well as GEC/Siemens Street Lighting, but concentrated with B.V Industra Lighting of Rotterdam.

GEC "Clearmain" Z9464 Main Road Street Light with Integral Gear, NEMA Photocell and 90w SOX Sodium Lamp.

Here you see a GEC Z9464 "Clearmain" Main Road Street Light attach on a Concrete Bracket, the Lantern came from my Local Electricity Company who kindly saved it for me, after a replacemt Scheme, and the bracket came from a fellow Collector, These Street Lights were widely used around the UK first installed in the early 1960's and are still used to date, this Light uses a 90 watt SOX Low Pressure Sodium Lamp,

GEC Z9480 "Clearside" Side Road Street Light with Photocell for 35 watt SOX Sodium Lamps

Here you see a GEC "Clearside" Z9480 Side Entry Side Road Street Light, These Street Lights are widely used around the City of Sheffield, they were first installed in the 1960's and are still used to date, this Light has been modified in the 1980's with the addition of a Photocell Socket, and uses a 35 watt SOX Low Pressure Sodium Lamp,

Other version of this Street light was made for use with a Top Entry option as well as Integral Gear originally these used a 45 or 60 watt SO/H "Dewar" and SOI/H "Integral" as well as the first Generation of 40 watt "SOX" Sodium Lamps.

GEC Z9484 Side Road Street Light with Photocell and 35w SOX Lamp

Here you see a GEC Z9484 Side Road Street Light with Royce Thompson Monostar 1000C Photocell which is fitted in a 20mm diameter hole in the Lantern, and OSRAM 35 watt SOX-Plus Lamp, These Street Lights are widely used around the Runcorn Area, and were first installed in the 1970's and are still used to date, although this Light has a 35 watt SOX Lamp it can also use a 55 watt SOX Low Pressure Sodium Lamp too,

Other version of this Street light was made for use with a 60 watt "Linear" SLI/H Sodium Lamp, those lanterns were the same as above but had the Catalogue Number Z9494. "See Below".

GEC Z9494 "Clearside" Side Entry Side Road Street Lantern with 60 watt SLI/H "Linear" Sodium Lamp

Here you see the GEC Z9494 Side Entry Side Road Street Lantern, this Lantern is prewired with a Starter Switch (Same as used in Fluorescent Lights), The Ballast would be mounted in the Base Compartment of the Lighting Column (Lamp Post) as well as a Time Switch, this light uses a GEC 60 watt SLI/H "Linear" Low Pressure Sodium Lamp, (as shown below) and were used for Side Road Lighting during the 1960's/70's.

Here you see a Classic Holophane "Duo-Dome" Open Refractor Street Light, these Street Lights were widely used around the UK first installed in the Late 1930's/Late 1940's, they were used to replace the old Gas Street Lanterns Originally this Light uses a 60 to 200 watt Filament or 80/125 watt MB/U Pearl Mercury Lamps, later they used 50, 80 or 125 watt MBF/U Mercury Vapour Lamps, and it would use the Control Gear in the Control Boxes mounted on the Lighting Column (Lamp Post), during the early 1970's these Street Lights were replaced by 35 watt SOX Lanterns.
